Adventures in Upcycling

We went a little paint crazy this weekend at the Domesticated Me household. As you may already know, we will be moving to a new apartment next month. We are so thrilled and excited to move into our three-bedroom pre-war apartment. We’re just waiting for all of the renovations to be completed so we can finally move in.

In preparation for the big move, we’ve started acquiring a few pieces of furniture for the new place. Some are already perfect but some pieces needed a little refurbishing. Here are a few pieces we decided to up upcycle [Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value. – wikipedia] or renovate.

My beautiful jewelry armoire actually used to store my makeup collection. That has changed as well as the cherry wood finish. Our master bedroom will be decorated in shades of black and white, therefore we decided to paint two of our bedroom pieces in white. Here is the armoire before and after painting.

My husband’s French Provincial dresser is from the Touraine Collection by Drexel (1950-1960s). He purchased it years ago for just $200. It was showing some wear and we thought a fresh coat of paint could give it some new life. Were we right or were we right?

We actually found this vanity/dresser in our new apartment. It was left behind (along with a 1950s stove!) and we decided to upcycle it. Since this will be in Catalina’s room, we decided to keep to add some pink to fit her room’s decor.

We’re still not sure if we like it like this or if we should go ahead and paint it all pink. What do you think?

Have you ever upcycled or refurbished furniture? Tell me about it in the comments section below.
