Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter Collection l Cultural Appropriation or Cultural Appreciation?

Pharrell Williams showed his Louis Vuitton Fall / Winter 2024 Mens Collection in Paris in January. Evoking the iconography of the American Western wardrobe, cowboy-inspired silhouettes and workwear details are imbued with the Maison’s heritage signatures. The collection also featured a creative exchange with the Dakota and Lakota Nations. This collaboration with creative director Dee Jay Two Bears and 4 Native American designers (Lauren Good Day, Trae Little Sky, Jocy Little Sky and Kendra Redhouse) resulted in hand-painted and embroidered Louis Vuitton bags, blankets and apparel with Native American symbols and designs. Pharrell also partnered with Native American artists in the soundtrack, staging and performance of the show.
