This is a sponsored post written by me in partnership with Latina Bloggers Connect and Disney Channel. Our love and excitement for Elena of Avalor is completely ours!
I am a Disney mom. I have watched and purchased a number of Disney movies and shows for my daughter, Catalina Isabel. You can find Disney Junior on all our phones and tablets as well as some of our favorite Disney movies.
But before I was a Disney mom, I was a Disney kid – a Disney girl, to be exact. Like so many generations of girls before me, I learned every word to my favorite Disney films and dreamed about being a Disney princess.
I’ve loved every single Disney princess to make their debut since childhood and my daughter is following in my footsteps. I love that my daughter sees just how bold and strong these female characters have become. She sees that they are heroes in their own right [Prince Charming Not Required!] and she will be influenced by their courage and integrity.
I was beyond thrilled to learn that Disney will soon debut their very first Latina Princess, Princess Elena of Avalor. When we tune in to the show, Princess Elena has saved her family from an evil sorceress and must now learn how to rule her magical kingdom at 16. The show will feature cultural and traditional traits inspired by Latin America.
Catalina was so excited to watch sneak peeks of the show on the Elena of Avalor YouTube Channel. I’ll never forget the look of excitement on her face when she saw all of the bright colors and recognized the Latin musical notes from the show’s trailer. Being able to truly identify with a Disney princess has also impacted me and many Latina women I know.
I’m looking forward to explaining some of the traditions and cultural references we’ll be sure to see on the show to my daughter. I look forward to my daughter recognizing aspects of Elena, her family and home with our own family and Heritage.
Elena of Avalor will premier this Friday, July 22nd at 7pm/6c on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior. We’re celebrating this profound, culturally significant premiere with our family and friends thanks to the party kit we received courtesy of the Disney Channel.
You can join in on the fun, too! Prepare your favorite Latin dish(es) and tune in! Don’t forget to join the Elena of Avalor Facebook page and subscribe to the YouTube channel for more exclusive content and news about our new favorite Princess.
