Channeling Carmen Miranda

Top: Ralph Lauren // Jeans: Queen of Hearts // Shoes: White Mountain // Earrings: Box of Pearls // Necklace: c/o GeorgiJules // Bag: Louis Vuitton // Bandanna: Unknown

It’s no secret that I often feel like I belong in a different era. I’m obsessed with the style of the 1950’s and other eras gone by. One of my favorite popular figures of the 50s is Carmen Miranda. She was beautiful, talented and a ground-breaker for Latin Americans (never mind the fact that she was a successful Latina woman!).

In this Outfit of the Day post, I’m throwing it back to a look I wore while in Los Angeles in January. I was staying at the Sportsmen’s Lodge which is the perfect setting for a shoot like this. It’s an iconic landmark hotel that predates the film industry. If it was good enough for Katherine Hepburn and Clark Gable, it’s good enough for me!

For this occasion, I wore one of my favorite vintage-inspired pieces – these Queen of Heartz high waisted jeans. They’re super comfortable and I adore the high waist. Even the pockets are super cute.

My favorite thing about these jeans is how the high waist rests across the smallest part of a woman’s body – her natural waist. It really helps emphasize a woman’s curvy figure.

My top is by Ralph Lauren. It’s a lovely off-white cotton top with flowy silk sleeves. The sleeves remind me of the ruffled tops Carmen Miranda used to wear during her performances.

I’m carrying my limited edition Louis Vuitton Ikat Neverfull in Grand Bleu. This is one of my favorite bags in my collection. It’s also the bag I most use. It’s such a functional bag, I could not live without it. This version features the classic monogram canvas with bright blue leather details and gold toned hardware.

One of my favorite warm weather shoes are espadrilles. These are by White Mountain and feature a comfortable wedge that gives height but doesn’t make your feet ache in any way. I love that the blue and off-white stripes at the toes are horizontal while the stripes on the ankle strap are vertical.
I’m wearing gold toned jewelry including this Gold Eternity Bar Necklace from GeorgiJules. It was a gift from my gorgeous gal pal, Stassi Schroeder, GeorgiJules is a jewelry company that she and her mother and sister created while living in New Orleans. You can find more of their pieces on their Etsy page here. I’m also wearing earrings by another Louisiana designer, Box of Pearls. I fell in love with them the moment I saw them at a fabulous NOLA boutique named Lucy Rose
