Smoothies and juices are a big part of my diet now. It’s usually what I have for breakfast – not just because I’m in a rush to get my daughter to daycare and myself to work, but because they’re delicious, nutritious and satisfying. Not to mention that they’re a great way to use your fruits and veggies right before they go bad. As my mother always says, it’s sin to let food go to waste.
Here is one of my absolute favorite smoothies. This one has the added bonus of having ingredients that are known to have weight-loss properties.
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1 cup of pineapple
1 cup of spinach
Place a ripe banana in your blender or single serve Ninja blending cup. Bananas are a staple in my smoothies. I always have them around in my home so they’re easy to grab. They’re also high in fiber which is always great to have in any diet.
Add one cup of pineapple. Pineapples are a great way to sweeten your meals without the cons of sugar. It is also a good source of fiber and vitamin C (works wonders for your immune system).
Add one cup of spinach for added fiber and iron. I’m border-line anemic so I always try to include ingredients that are high in fiber. Dark greens (like spinach and kale) are an easy way to get a healthy dose of iron because they’re so easy to find and keep. I keep mine fresh by using this lettuce keeper (works for berries, too!).
Serve in your favorite glass and enjoy!
