The New Mom Uniform for Spring

Top: Tahari // Jeans: Express //  Shoes: Alexandre Birman // Handbag: Gino Ferruzzi // Jewelry: c/o Kendra Phillip & Margaret Elizabeth via RocksBox // Sunglasses: Coach

I know there are countless of busy moms out there who don’t think they have time to be fashionable, but I’m here to prove them wrong. In the simple and easy to replicate Outfit of the Day, I’ll introduce you to what I’m calling the new mom uniform for Spring/Summer 2014.

Moms often seek comfort over style but the two categories are not mutually exclusive. For my new Spring mom uniform ootd, I present the flowy tunic. This top is pretty much the embodiment of “comfortable”. It’s not a structured top so it isn’t form fitting. You won’t have to worry about your tummy (if that’s your problem area) as you run errands or chase after your kids. Search for one in breathable fabric for added comfort. And make sure you pick some up in light pastel colors as these hues are totally in this season. The one I’m wearing here is by Tahari in a beautiful mint shade.

I remain baffled when I see women walking around in sweats or yoga pants. Jeans are the ultimate bottoms for ease and resourcefulness. Buy them in a dark finishes for a more sophisticated look or lighter hues for a more casual ensemble. Since the tunic is loose-fitting, I’m balances the proportions by wearing more fitted jeans. The thing that makes these jeans really mommy-friendly is that they are by Express and purchased for a mere $19.99 at TJ Maxx. Therefore, I won’t be devastated if they get damaged at the park while on a picnic or visiting at the playground.

Sandals are always a staple in a girl’s Spring and Summer wardrobe. These are by Alexandre Birman and feature his signature use of exotic skins. This pair has snakeskin straps in light blue and white shades along with tan leather traps. (They go perfectly with any Louis Vuitton Damier Azur in your collection, ladies!)
I’m making a conscious decision to wear smaller handbags this season. I’ve realized that I don’t always need the larger bags I tend to carry. On those days when I’m out without my daughter, I will pick up a clutch or a lady-like shoulder bag. Here is a perfect example of one such bag. It’s a vintage Gino Ferruzzi leather bag in three shades of brown with gold hardware. I’ve had it for years but I’m ashamed to say that I never wear it. Well, that’s about to change!
Add a bit of glamour to these no-fuss look by adding some bling! Here I’m wearing some bracelets and rings in mixed metals by Kendra Phillip. I received these lovely baubles at Lucky FABB‘s gifting suite last year and I can’t believe I’m just now photographs them. They’re a really great way to liven up any outfit – even jeans and a simple tunic!

I’m also wearing these beautiful aqua and gold chandelier earrings by Margaret Elizabeth. I received these earrings in my latest delivery from RocksBox. Read all about this subscription based jewelry program here. As a final touch of everyday glamour, I topped my look off with these brown sunglasses by Coach. They feature the Coach logo in gold as an embellishment on the arms. What says “mom-friendly” more than a pair of large sunglasses that can hide puffy eyes and dark circles in such a chic way?

I hope this post will help you see how you can add a little touch of glamour to your everyday mom wardrobe this Spring and Summer. How do you like to add some jazz to your simple outfits?
