Fit Friday: 5 Ways to Stay Motivated

If you’ve been following my health series, Fit Friday, since last year, you probably already know about my 50lbs weight loss. I’m no healgth and nutritional expert. I±m not even one of the healthiest people you’ll meet. I am, however, someone who was overweight for the majority of my life (including childhood and adolescence) and thought I was destined to stay that way forever. You can hear all about how I started my wieght-loss journey here alone with my #1 weight-loss tip.

As many of the millions of people who want to loss weight every year know, it’s hard to keep up with your health goals. That’s why I created this list of my Top 5 Ways to Stay Motivated to keep fit and healthy. For those of you who are just starting your new healthy lifestyle, this works for you, too!

1. Shop for New Workout Gear

Buy new exercise clothes that you look forward to wearing will motivate you to stick to your workout routine like no other. Now you don’t have to go out and buy $200 yoga pants! Poshmark is a great place to find gently worn or brand-new-with-tags items from brands like Lululemon. You can also find great gear at discounted prices at TJ Maxx or Marshals. Target __, Aeropostale, JC Penny and others also have good athletic apparel that are often made by high end designers that sell their mid-range lines exclusively at their stores. I’m also a big fan of Fabletics, Kate Hudson’s activewear line.

2. Buy New Sneakers

One of the first things you should do before starting a new exercise regimen is to buy yourself new sneakers. You need to find the right sneakers that best fit your foot and workout needs. Do you have flat feet? Do you need extra cushion or want to feel like you’re almost wearing nothing on your feet? Will you be running on outdoor track or primarily staying in the gym. All these questions and answers factor in towards finding you the perfect pair of sneakers.

Having this wellness journal staring at you every time you open the bag will definately keep you motivated to fill in the pages. Not to mention that this super slim book is just as cute as the Erin Condren planners and notebooks. You’ll love filling in each section with color print, quotes, stickers, etc. Buy your Erin Condren Wellness Journal here.

Create a physical or vertual inspiration board with healthy recipes, workouts and/or event healthy body image photos. I’m NOT talking about thinspiration, though! Select healthy body that have musle, curves, etc. Think Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and otger women who you know eat and workout.

5. Be Social

Be social about your new healthy lifestyles in two ways. Join health and fitness groups online, follow gurus on Intagram and Twitter and use other social media platforms to stay focuesd and motivated. Include your friends and family in your new lifestyle. Set up dates to try out a new fitness class and try a new healthy restaurants together.

Don’t forget to follow my new health/fitness hashtag on social media – #DMhealth. Post photos of your progress, what your’re eatng or what workout you’re trying with #DMhealth to join the conversations.
