New York Eats: Avocado Toast

There are so many famous New York City dishes. In this new series I’m calling “New York City Eats“, I’ll introduce you to a few of those dishes and show you how you can recreate them at home. I’m starting off this series with a simple yet delicious dish that will change your breakfast repertoire forever. I promise!
Ladies and gentleman, Cafe Gitane Avocado Toast Recipe.
Ingredients:
1 hass avocado (for 4 slices of toast)
chili pepper flakes
whole wheat toast (usually served on thick 7 grain toast)
salt and pepper to taste

Start cutting a ripe avocado in half and removing the seed.

Scrap all of the avocado fruit (yes, avocados are fruit!) from the skin and dump it into a small to medium mixing bowl.

Use a fork to mash the avocado. Add salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste. The lemon juice prevents the avocado from turning brown. It also enhances the taste of the avocado like nothing else can. But be careful. You’re not making guacamole here!

Add a small amount of olive or avocado oil to the mixture. This will help you achieve the right consistency to spread the mixture on the bread. I’m using this Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil.

Once you spread the avocado mixture to the bread, sprinkle some chili pepper flakes over it. And here you have the famous avocado toast! It’s so good, even your kids will love it (without the pepper flakes, of course). Just take a look at Catalina’s serving below.
