Iconic street style photographer Bill Cunningham once said “the best fashion show is definitely on the street. Always has been, and always will be.” This is especially evident during New York Fashion Week. Yes, inside the tents are some of the most exquisitely made and lusted-after clothing and accessories. But there is nothing quite like the pieces attendees wear outside of the exclusive semi-annual fashion event of the year.
For my very first day at NYFW
, I chose a bold Outfit of the Day
. I decided to wear this fantastic Desigual
dress since I was attending their runway show. One of my favorite things about Desigual is that their colors and prints are daring and bright. It’s a reflection of the rich, audacious aesthetic of Spain
. It reminds me of my travels through my native country. Another thing that I love about Desigual pieces is that although they are bold, the fit and cuts are classic and very flattering. The stretchy fabric hugged my curves but the length and neckline gives this dress the perfect balance of sexy and tasteful. This dress is currently available at your local Desigual store and online
I wore this hunter green fur coat over my Desigual dress. It’s vintage and it belongs to my mother. Thank goodness for fashionable, generous moms! Am I right? It was the perfect coat for the freezing New York City weather. Thankfully I didn’t have to trade in fashion for warmth as many ladies often do (google pictures of women with bare legs in 25° weather). This kept me quite warm and received numerous compliments. I also wore a black turtleneck underneath the dress to ensure I stayed warm when removing my coat.
Finding the perfect handbag to go with an outfit can be quite difficult. Thankfully I had this great Galian bag in my collection. It’s faux black leather with a green flap over the front compartment. It’s embellished with light gold metallic accents. I chose to remove the strap and carry the bag with my hands and on the crook of my arm.
Shoes are another huge part of NYFW people watching. Women often wear incredibly elaborate shoes to the shoes. I, on the other hand, much prefer comfort when I know I will be out for hours. I made the right decision. I wore these faux suede black wedges from Dr. Scholls. Yes, Dr. Scholls makes shoes! They’re not only comfortable but cute. This pair gave me height with the comfort of a wedge and soft insole.
I brought my signature classic, neutral pinup makeup
look to the big show. Watch my makeup tutorial
